This year we've introduced a new reading initiative. Our Reading Team, consisting of Tracy Doevendans, Catherine Sanders and Jaimey Vincent will work with our Year 7 and 8 Literacy teachers to organise our Year 7 and 8 students into small reading groups. Our focus is to teach students specific reading comprehension skills, such as how to find the main idea of a paragraph or article, identifying the sequence of events in a text, and determining the author's purpose or intent in writing a text. Our goal is to create confident independent readers. Having a class teacher or teacher aide work with a small group ensures that all students have a chance to participate, and better ensures that all students receive quality feedback about their reading.
